MeshAtlantic contributes to the discovery of new species in the Portuguese Continental Shelf

Researchers from the University of Aveiro/CESAM discovered four new
species of Polychaetes in samples collected along the Portuguese
Continental Shelf.

The species belong to the Lumbrineridae family and

were named as Lumbrineris lusitanica, distributed along the western and

southern Portuguese shelf; L. pinaster e L. luciliae more restricted to the

southern shelf and!Gallardoneris iberica also distributed mainly along the

southern areas of the shelf. The genus Gallardoneris was so far only

known for the Pacific. The work was developed in co-operation with Luis

Carrera-Parra from ECOSUR, México - an international recognized

specialist for the taxonomy of the Lumbrineridae family. The results from
