MEDPAN Workshop report: Science for management

WWF Mediterranean Programme Office and MedPAN Organization have organized, on the 5 and 6 March 2013 in the Plemmirio MPA's premises in Ortigia (Siracusa), Italy, an international Workshop bringing together scientists and MPA practitioners from across the region to discuss how to bridge the existing gaps between science and MPA management and create a two-way dialogue that allows the application of science-based results to resource management and where management needs can guide scientific research.
The workshop has provided a first opportunity for participants:
- To assess the current gaps in research and MPA management and understand how to address these gaps (starting from the preliminary assessment conducted by MedPAN in 2012).
- To identify existing research outputs that can be transformed to better inform management decisions
- To identify existing mechanisms for partnerships between research institutions and MPA practitioners and develop new mechanisms were needed
